DESIGN VERSE 25

By IVORY HOMES

I had the privilege of participating in DesignVerse 25, a national-level furniture design competition organized by Ivory Homes in collaboration with Unstop. This edition, themed “Aesthetic Innovation for Indian Homes,” invited architects and designers from across the country to push beyond conventional furniture paradigms and respond to the evolving needs of Indian domestic spaces with creativity, sensitivity, and cultural depth.

The competition served as a platform to engage with the nuanced relationship between furniture, spatial experience, and everyday life. My submission focused on reinterpreting traditional design sensibilities through contemporary material strategies and modular construction. With a keen emphasis on ergonomics, sustainability, and adaptability, the design sought to address the shifting dynamics of Indian households—where space is both a limitation and an opportunity for innovation.

Participating in this competition offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the role of furniture not just as an object, but as an extension of architecture—intimately tied to context, craft, and community. The process was further enriched by interactions with an esteemed jury comprising leading professionals in design, manufacturing, and architecture, whose insights added invaluable depth to the experience.

DesignVerse 25 was not just a competition—it was a moment to test ideas, challenge assumptions, and contribute meaningfully to the discourse on Indian contemporary living. The experience continues to inform my approach to human-centered design at multiple scales.
